vReveal 3 — who we created it for — busy creators

Here at MotionDSP, many of us are parents with young kids.

Our lives our busy, and at home, we don’t quite have the time we used to have to muck around with video software. We created vReveal 3.0 for busy parents like ourselves: busy Moms and Dads who want to do more with video, but haven’t had the right tool.
In our research, parents take hundreds of photos and videos on their mobile phones, but rarely share them, as they’re too hard to sort through and too big to upload over the air. But we won’t delete them – they’re too important. We also don’t have time to read manuals, so we’ve designed vReveal 3.0 to be simple, and look and feel much like something we’re comfortable with — mobile phone applications.
First, vReveal scans your hard drive and finds all your videos. Then it displays them in a thumbnail gallery you can scroll through — just like on your smartphone.

Here’s a video from one of our last ski trips of the year. It’s dark, shaky, the color is off, and it’s too long.

Step 1: Fix

Because this video was taken late in the day, it has a blue tint. Parents don’t have time to learn how to set the white balance setting, they just want their video fixed. We’ve wrapped up our sophisticated video processing algorithms into an automatic “one-click-fix.” You click “one click fix”, and vReveal corrects the color. Done. In fact, if you see the video in real life (as opposed to a still image), you’ll that it also shakes. vReveal fixes that as well, automatically.

Step 2: Trim. Maybe your video is too long, and you only want to share the part where the kid slides down the slope. You can quickly adjust the begin/end points with the easy-to-see thumbnail timeline.

Step 3: Save. You can choose iPad-compatible MP4, Windows Media, AVI format.

Step 4: Share. All you need to do is click on the YouTube or Facebook icon, type in your account info, and the fixed video is uploaded. Done.

Panorama

If you’ve ever used a panorama application before, you’ve probably had to use special tools to take the panorama – so you keep the camera level, and special tools to process the panorama – selecting the exact start and end-points. That’s all automatic in vReveal. MotionDSP’s image processing algorithms decide where the best panorama is within your video, and then uses aspects of every frame of video to stitch together a beautiful panorama.

This panorama below was created from a video taken on a Samsung Epic 4G. We opened the video up in vReveal 3.0, clicked “Panorama,” and this panorama was created. That’s it.

vReveal 3.0 Released

vReveal 3.0: Powerfully simple video software for real people

MotionDSP is pleased to announce vReveal 3.0, a major upgrade to our award-winning video application for Windows. Ever since the first version of vReveal, we’ve strived to solve one of the fundamental problems for consumers and video: video software is painful to use. It’s complicated, cumbersome, and slow. With vReveal 3.0, we’ve kept vReveal’s amazing “one-click-fix” feature, while re-thinking the interface, making major advancements in speed, and added an amazing automatic panorama feature. You’re going to love it.

Our vision for vReveal: solve the video problem for consumers
Most consumer video software started as professional video software, designed to edit professional television shows and Hollywood movies. Consumers don’t create television shows, they take short videos on their smartphones and they want to share them. Period.

A leading manufacturer of PCs told us that 80% of consumers list “doing things with video” as one of the top 5 reasons for purchasing a PC, but only 5% end up actually doing so, for the above reasons: video software is complicated, cumbersome, and slow.

MotionDSP designed vReveal from a clean sheet. We got down to the basics: make a simple-to-use application that was fast, easy-to-use, and amazing. This wasn’t easy to do when we started in 2009. Computers were slow, and consumers weren’t doing much with video yet. But then graphic chips (GPUs) got faster, and then the iPhone 3 came out, and it could take good video. And we went through version 1 and version 2 of vReveal, listening to all the feedback we got from users, and making vReveal better and better.

Now, in 2011, consumers have iPhones and Android phones with great high-def video cameras in their pockets. And graphics chips have become WAY more powerful. Indeed, just this week, AMD has released their new AMD A-Series APU which packs a powerful discrete-class graphics processor (GPU) and a powerful 4-core CPU into the same chip. For $500, consumers can now buy a computer that is nearly the equivalent of a super-computer. And vReveal 3.0 has been specially tuned to use every ounce of this power. For more information about AMD A-Series APUs and AMD VISION Technology, see the AMD website www.amd.com/vision.

Create amazing panoramas from video in one click with new vReveal 3.0

Popular video enhancement software hand-picked as launch partner for AMD’s groundbreaking A-Series APUs

SEATTLE, WA, June 14, 2011MotionDSP, a leader in video processing technology, today announced the release of vReveal® 3.0 (www.vreveal.com), a major upgrade to its software for enhancing video from mobile phones, digital cameras, and DSLRs. vReveal 3.0 is released in conjunction with the launch of AMD A-Series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs), and it is extensively optimized to take advantage of their powerful parallel computing capabilities.

vReveal’s new “auto-panorama” is a revolutionary new feature for creating stunning panoramas from video. Almost any panning video clip can be automatically transformed into high-quality panoramic image and posted to Facebook in one click.

The new release also features a completely redesigned user interface, up to 179% faster performance for HD video processing on A Series APUs (compared to Intel’s Sandy Bridge chips), and a signature one-click video fix, allowing users to automatically stabilize, color-correct, and sharpen video in any format.

Video processing is notoriously computationally intensive, which enables this type of application to benefit tremendously from the combination of CPU and GPU on the same die in the APU architecture,” said John Taylor, director, Client Product and Software Marketing, AMD (NYSE: AMD). “We have been working with MotionDSP to optimize vReveal to run on APU-based PCs because vReveal’s powerful algorithms are a perfect match for CPU general purpose and GPU parallel processing in AMD A_Series multicore APUs. vReveal 3.0’s new OpenCL-based architecture spreads tasks across both the CPU and GPU, taking full advantage of the supercomputer-like performance available in A-Series APUs. The results are even better than we could have expected.” In controlled lab tests, vReveal 3.0 performed up to 179% faster on PCs powered by AMD A-Series APUs versus comparable Intel-based PCs at HD resolutions.

Millions of new smartphone users want to discover, fix, and share their videos,” said Sean Varah, CEO of Motion DSP. “AMD’s innovative Vision technology makes it possible for us to deliver a lightning-fast, effortless video software experience to consumers at a great price. We’re proud to be a launch partner for AMD’s A Series APUs.”

vReveal is available as a free download at www.vreveal.com.
